Popout: Your solution to releasing your casting
Anytime you cast a mold that does not release the porcelain piece easily, you can use Popout to help the piece release from the mold easily, hence the name “popout”.
Popout is a white powder that comes in an one ounce zip-lock bag. Use sparingly, and as with any fine powder, avoid breathing dust.
With a soft brush (like a small china mop), dust lightly into detail area of problem mold. Brush away excess. Cast your piece as usual. Any powdery residue on your piece will fire out immediately. You can also put popout on a small section of a cotton cloth (or in a terry cloth/cotton sock). Then bunch up at corners to create a ‘pouch’ and simply ‘pat’ only mold surface. Popout will come out through threads. Make sure to use a wrap tie or a rubber band to seal pouch.
Recommended to use with molds such as cups with attached handles; molds with highly detailed areas; plates and plaques.
Mold storing tip: Pat or brush a little popout around adjoining mold surfaces before storing molds, to avoid molds sticking together, which sometimes can lead to damage.
You can purchase popout from Seeley’s
